How to Book an Indane Gas Cylinder: App, SMS, WhatsApp and Call

If you have an Indane connection, there are four or five different ways to book a refill — and most people only ever learn one of them. That’s fine until the day the app refuses to load, or you’re at your parents’ place with a phone that has no internet, and suddenly you need a backup.

This guide covers all of them, in the order of how reliable they actually are. I use an Indane connection myself, so most of what follows is written from doing it rather than reading about it.

Before You Book: Keep These Three Things Ready

Almost every booking failure comes down to one of these being wrong, so it’s worth sorting them out once.

1. Your registered mobile number

This is the single most important one. Indane links your booking to the phone number registered with your distributor — not whichever phone you happen to be holding. If you book by SMS or missed call from a different number, nothing happens. No error, no reply, just silence.

If you have changed your number in the last few years and never told the agency, this is the first thing to fix. It is a five-minute job at the distributor’s counter.

2. Your consumer number

You’ll find it printed on your subscription voucher (the SV), on any delivery cash memo, and inside the app once you log in. Keep a photo of the cash memo in your gallery — it has the consumer number, the distributor name and the distributor’s phone number all in one place.

3. Your distributor’s name

You need this only the first time you set up the app or the portal. After that it’s saved.

Method 1: The IndianOil ONE App

This is the one I use nine times out of ten. IndianOil ONE is the official app that handles Indane LPG along with fuel and other IndianOil services, and a booking takes about fifteen seconds once you’re set up.

The first-time setup:

  1. Install IndianOil ONE from the Play Store or App Store. Check the developer name says Indian Oil Corporation Ltd — there are copycat apps.
  2. Register with your mobile number and verify the OTP.
  3. Look for the LPG section and link your Indane connection. You can usually do this by entering your consumer number, or by selecting your state, district and distributor and then searching your name.
  4. Once linked, your connection details show up on the LPG screen.

After that, booking a refill is: open the app, tap the LPG section, tap Book Cylinder, confirm. You get a booking number on screen, and an SMS on your registered number within a minute or two.

One thing worth knowing — if the app shows your connection but the Book button is greyed out, it usually means a previous booking is still open. More on that below.

Method 2: The Indane Website

If you’d rather not install an app, the Indane consumer portal on the IndianOil website does the same job from a browser. You register once with your consumer number and mobile number, set a password, and then book from the dashboard.

It works, but honestly it’s slower than the app and the session logs you out fairly often. I’d treat it as a backup rather than your main route — useful mainly if you’re booking from a laptop, or helping a relative book from your own device.

Method 3: Booking by SMS

This is the method that saves you when the internet is patchy. It’s a single text message from your registered mobile number to the Indane booking number for your area.

The format is a fixed one — a keyword followed by your distributor’s STD code and telephone number, and then your consumer number. Get the spacing wrong and it won’t register.

Two things about SMS booking that trip people up. First, it has to come from the registered number — no exceptions. Second, if your phone has DND or promotional message blocking switched on for that sender, you may book successfully but never receive the confirmation.

The official all-India SMS and IVRS refill booking number for Indian Oil (Indane Gas) is 7718955555 .

Method 4: WhatsApp and Missed Call

Indane also accepts bookings over WhatsApp and through a missed-call number, both of which are genuinely convenient once saved in your contacts. Because each of these has its own setup quirks, we’ve covered them properly in separate guides rather than squeezing them in here.

The short version: both need your registered mobile number, and both send you the same confirmation SMS as any other method.

How to Confirm Your Booking Actually Went Through

A booking is confirmed when you get an SMS with a booking number — usually a longish reference number, sometimes called a docket number. Save that SMS or note the number down. If you later need to chase the delivery, that number is the first thing the distributor will ask for.

If no SMS arrives within about ten minutes, assume the booking did not register and try a different method. Don’t keep hammering the same one — you’ll sometimes end up with a duplicate booking that then blocks your next refill.

Common Problems, and What They Actually Mean

“Mobile number not registered”

Your number isn’t linked to the connection at the distributor’s end. Visit the agency with your SV or a cash memo and an ID proof and get it updated. Some distributors will do it over a phone call, most won’t.

“Previous booking pending”

There’s already an open booking against your connection. Either a refill is on its way and you’ve forgotten, or a duplicate got created. Check your booking status before doing anything else. If a booking is stuck and the cylinder never came, the distributor can cancel it from their end.

Booking rejected because of the gap between refills

There’s a minimum number of days that must pass between two subsidised refills, and a cap on how many subsidised cylinders a household can take in a year. If you book too soon after the last one, or you’ve used up the year’s quota, the system will refuse or offer the cylinder at the non-subsidised rate instead.

OTP not arriving during app registration

Usually network, occasionally a full SMS inbox, sometimes an OTP-blocking setting. Wait two minutes before requesting another one — requesting repeatedly can lock you out for a while.

The app shows someone else’s details

This happens when a connection was taken in a family member’s name and the app has matched that record. It’s not an error as such. Book from it if the connection is the one you use, and get the name transferred separately if you need it in your own name.

How Long Does Delivery Take?

In most cities, two to four days is normal. In smaller towns it can stretch a bit longer, and around festivals it stretches for everybody. Your distributor’s own service commitment is the number that matters, and it’s usually displayed at the agency.

If nothing arrives well past that window, there’s a proper escalation route — distributor first, then the company, then the grievance channel — and it does work if you have your booking number ready.

Quick Answers

Can I book from a number that isn’t registered?
Through the app or the website, yes, because you log in with your account. Through SMS or missed call, no.

Can I book two cylinders at once?
Only if you hold a double-cylinder connection. On a single-cylinder connection the second booking won’t go through until the first is delivered.

Do I have to pay while booking?
No. You can pay the delivery person, or pay online after the cash memo is generated if your distributor supports it.

I booked but never got an SMS. Did it work?
Check the booking status in the app before rebooking. If nothing shows there, it didn’t register.

Wrapping Up

The app is the easiest route, SMS is the one worth learning as a fallback, and a correctly registered mobile number is what makes all of them work. Sort that one detail out and Indane booking stops being something you think about.

If something in this guide doesn’t match what you’re seeing on your screen, do write in — procedures vary a little between distributors, and corrections from readers are how this page stays accurate.
