One city is listed per state here. If you live in a smaller town, your rate will usually sit a few rupees above your state’s main city, because the cylinder has travelled further to reach you.
Cheapest and Costliest Markets Right Now
Looking down that list, a clear pattern shows up.
The cheapest rates are in Hyderabad (₹934), Mumbai (₹941.50), Delhi (₹942) and Bengaluru (₹944.50) — big cities that either sit on the coast or have a bottling plant close by.
The costliest are Agartala (₹1,102.50), Gangtok (₹1,094.50), Aizawl (₹1,094), Imphal (₹1,093.50) and Leh (₹1,074.50). Every one of them is either in the Northeast or high up in the mountains. Patna at ₹1,031.50 is the most expensive rate among the larger mainland cities.
So a household in Agartala pays roughly ₹168 more per cylinder than one in Hyderabad. Over a year, on twelve refills, that works out to about ₹2,000 extra for the same gas.
What You Are Actually Paying For
The figure on the cash memo is not just the cost of the gas. It bundles in:
- The base cost of LPG, which tracks international prices and the rupee-dollar rate
- Bottling and filling charges at the plant
- Freight from the bottling plant to your distributor’s godown
- Distributor commission, which covers home delivery
- GST, plus a local levy in some states
Delivery to your door is already inside that number. You are not supposed to pay anything extra for it. If the delivery person asks for something on top, that is a tip and entirely your choice — not a charge.
Why Two Places Have Different Rates
Mostly it comes down to distance, and the table above shows it plainly.
Freight is the biggest single reason. A cylinder that travels a few hundred kilometres inland, or climbs into the hills, costs far more to move than one going twenty kilometres across a city. That is why Leh and Srinagar sit above ₹1,050 while Delhi is at ₹942, and why the entire Northeast is expensive — the region is a long way from the nearest large bottling infrastructure.
Local taxes are the second reason. They are not identical across states, and that shifts the final number by a few rupees to a few tens of rupees.
Which means a rate quoted for a whole state is only an approximation. The real price is fixed for your distributor’s specific location.
Subsidised and Non-Subsidised: Which Applies to You
Almost every household today pays the non-subsidised rate — the one in the table — and that full amount leaves your pocket at the door.
Where a subsidy does apply, it does not cut the price you pay. You pay the same amount, and the subsidy is credited into your bank account afterwards through direct benefit transfer. So if your memo matches your neighbour’s exactly, that is normal. Any difference turns up in the bank statement, not the bill.
Ujjwala beneficiaries get an additional per-cylinder benefit on top, subject to that scheme’s conditions.
How to Check the Exact Rate for Your Own Connection

- Open your provider’s website — Indane on the IndianOil site, or the HP Gas or Bharat Gas portal.
- Find the LPG price or RSP section.
- Select your state, then district, then your distributor.
- The figure against the 14.2 kg cylinder is what you will be charged.
Two quicker checks: the rate is printed on your last cash memo, and your distributor displays the current rate at the counter. If a delivery person quotes more than the portal figure, raise it with the agency the same day.
When Do Prices Change?
Revisions normally land around the 1st of the month, but nothing forces a change every month — the domestic rate has gone unchanged for several months at a stretch more than once, including this year. Commercial 19 kg rates move far more often and far more sharply, because household cylinders get cushioned in a way commercial ones do not.
When crude swings hard or shipping routes get disrupted, an off-cycle revision can happen. That is why the date at the top of this page matters more than the number itself.
Paying for Your Refill
Cash on delivery still works everywhere. Most distributors now take UPI at the door too, and you can prepay through your provider’s app once the cash memo is generated. Paying online has one small advantage — you get a record, which helps if there is ever a dispute about the amount.
