HP Gas gives you more ways to book a refill than most people ever use — an app, a website, WhatsApp, SMS, a missed call, a phone call, and even the UPI apps already on your phone. The trouble is that nobody tells you which one to use when, or why a perfectly normal booking sometimes just doesn’t go through.
This guide lays out every official method, the numbers for each, and the handful of reasons bookings fail.
First, Make Sure You’re Actually With HP Gas
It sounds silly, but in households where the connection was taken years ago, people genuinely aren’t sure. Check any of these:
- Your cash memo or delivery bill — it will carry the HP Gas name and your distributor’s name
- Your subscription voucher, the document you got when the connection was issued
- The cylinder itself, which carries the company’s branding
If it says Indane or Bharat Gas instead, the numbers on this page won’t work for you — each company runs its own booking system.
What You Need Before Booking

Your registered mobile number. Every method except the app and website depends on it. HP’s system identifies your connection from the number you call or message from, so a booking from any other phone goes nowhere.
Your consumer number. Printed on the cash memo. You need it for setting up the app or website the first time.
Your distributor’s name. Also on the cash memo, and also needed only for first-time setup.
Method 1: The HP Pay App
HP’s LPG services now sit inside its main app, HP Pay. Earlier there was a separate HP Gas app, so if you are searching the Play Store and seeing different names, HP Pay is the one to install — check that the developer listed is Hindustan Petroleum.
Once installed:
- Register with your mobile number and verify the OTP.
- Go to the HP Gas section and add your LPG account, using your consumer number and distributor details.
- After the account is linked, choose the option to book a refill and confirm.
You can pay for the cylinder inside the app at the same time, which saves handling cash at the door.
The app is also where HP has put most of its other services — registering complaints, requesting a mechanic, changing your mobile number, surrendering a connection, and moving your connection to another distributor. Worth having installed even if you usually book another way.
Method 2: WhatsApp
For many people this is now the easiest route, because it needs no app beyond the one you already use all day.
- Save 92222 01122 in your contacts — something like “HP Gas Booking”.
- From your registered mobile number, send “Hi”.
- A menu appears. Choose the refill booking option and follow the prompts.
- The confirmation comes back in the same chat.
If nothing happens, you are almost certainly messaging from a number that isn’t registered with your connection.
Method 3: SMS
This works without internet, which makes it the best backup.
From your registered mobile number, type BOOK and send it to 88888 23456 or 94936 02222.
That’s the whole thing. No consumer number, no codes — the system recognises you from your phone number. You’ll get a confirmation SMS back.
Method 4: Missed Call
Give a missed call to 94936 02222 from your registered number. The call cuts itself, and a booking confirmation arrives by SMS.
This is the method to teach elderly family members. There is nothing to type, nothing to read, and nothing to get wrong.
Method 5: IVRS Phone Call
Call 88888 23456 and follow the voice instructions — the refill booking option is under 1.
Slower than the missed call, but useful if you want to hear the confirmation rather than wait for a message, or if you want to check other things while you’re on the line.
Method 6: The myHPGas Website
Log in at myhpgas.in with your consumer details, and book from the dashboard. It does the same job as the app. It’s most handy when you are booking for a relative from your own laptop — you log in with their consumer details rather than needing their phone.
Method 7: Paytm, PhonePe, Amazon Pay and Other UPI Apps
Most payment apps have an LPG section under bill payments. Search for LPG, choose HP Gas, enter your details the first time, then pay and book in one go.
People who pay all their bills from one app tend to prefer this. The one thing to remember is that you are booking and paying at the same moment, so make sure you actually need the refill before you pay.
Which Method Should You Use?
A short honest answer:
- You want it done in ten seconds: missed call
- You want to pay online too: HP Pay app or a UPI app
- No internet: SMS or missed call
- Booking for parents who live elsewhere: the website, with their consumer details
- You need anything other than a refill: HP Pay app
Save both 92222 01122 and 94936 02222 in your phone today. Then if one route is down, you already have the other.
How to Know the Booking Went Through
You should receive a confirmation — by SMS for most methods, in the chat for WhatsApp, on screen for the app — with a booking reference number. Keep it. If the delivery gets delayed and you have to chase it, that reference is the first thing anyone will ask for.
If no confirmation comes within about ten minutes, don’t keep trying the same method over and over. Check whether a booking already exists in the app, or try one different method once.
Why a Booking Fails
Booking from the wrong number
The most common reason by far. If you changed your number and never updated it with your distributor, SMS, missed call and WhatsApp bookings all fail quietly. You can update your registered mobile number through the HP Pay app or at the distributor’s office.
A previous booking is still open
On a single-cylinder connection, you can’t book a new refill until the last one has been delivered. Sometimes a booking you forgot about — or a duplicate from pressing twice — is still sitting there. Check your booking history first.
Too soon after the last refill
There’s a minimum gap required between two refills on a domestic connection, and an annual limit on subsidised cylinders. Book before that gap is over and the system refuses. If you are genuinely running out faster than usual, that’s also worth checking for a leak.
eKYC not completed
From 1 October 2026, booking at the regulated, subsidised price requires biometric Aadhaar authentication to be completed on your connection. Without it, you can still get a cylinder, but at the market price. If your booking shows a noticeably higher amount than you’re used to, this is the first thing to check. The HP Pay app shows your eKYC status and lets you complete it from home.
DND blocking the reply
Your booking may have gone through perfectly, but a DND setting or a spam filter on your phone swallowed the confirmation SMS. Check the app before rebooking.
Quick Answers
Is there any charge for booking by SMS or missed call?
A missed call costs nothing. An SMS is charged at your normal rate, if your plan charges for SMS at all.
Can I book from someone else’s phone?
Only through the app or website, where you log in with your own details. SMS, WhatsApp, missed call and IVRS need the registered number.
Do I have to pay while booking?
No. You can pay the delivery person in cash or by UPI. Paying while booking is optional, except on payment apps where the two happen together.
Can I book a second cylinder straight away?
Only if yours is a double-cylinder connection. On a single-cylinder connection, the next booking opens after the current one is delivered.
Can I switch from HP Gas to another company?
You can move to another distributor, and there is a portability option in the HP Pay app. Changing companies altogether is a separate process that goes through surrendering and taking a new connection.
The Short Version
Save 92222 01122 for WhatsApp and 94936 02222 for missed calls and SMS, keep your registered number up to date, and check your eKYC status once. Do those three things and HP Gas booking becomes the least of your worries in the kitchen.
HP’s own refill booking page lists these channels too, and is the place to check if any number ever changes.
