A form asks for your “LPG ID”. You dig out the last cash memo from the kitchen drawer, carefully type the number printed on it, and the website says “no record found”. You try again, slower this time. Same result. Most people decide the website is broken. Usually, it’s the number.
Your gas connection has more than one number attached to it, and they look similar enough to confuse anyone. This guide explains what each one is, where to find it for Indane, HP Gas and Bharat Gas, and which number to use for what.

The Numbers on Your Gas Connection
| Number | What it is | Where you’ll usually find it |
|---|---|---|
| Consumer number | The number your gas agency knows you by | Cash memo, consumer card, Subscription Voucher |
| 17-digit LPG ID | A longer number that identifies your connection on its own | Your company’s website or app, and newer papers |
| SV number | The number of your Subscription Voucher, the document you got with the connection | The SV itself |
| Registered mobile number | Not an ID, but the key to booking and delivery | Your phone |
Consumer number
This is the number your distributor uses for you, for bookings, deliveries, complaints and anything you do at the counter. Because it’s tied to your gas agency, online forms that ask for it almost always ask which distributor you’re with as well.
Indane customers also have a 16-digit consumer ID that starts with 7. IndianOil says this number is printed on Indane invoices, cash memos and the Subscription Voucher, and its IVRS booking line uses it to identify you.
17-digit LPG ID
The LPG ID came into everyday use with PAHAL, the direct benefit transfer scheme for LPG, which was rolled out across the country from 1 January 2015. When the scheme was launched, the government said consumers without Aadhaar could link their bank account directly with their 17-digit LPG ID. Today, you’ll need it mainly for subsidy status checks and some online forms.
Here’s the simplest way to tell the numbers apart: count the digits. If it isn’t exactly 17 digits, it isn’t your LPG ID.
SV number
This is printed on your Subscription Voucher. You’ll need it when you transfer, surrender or change the name on a connection.
How to Find Your Consumer Number

- Your last cash memo or delivery receipt. The quickest place to look.
- Your Domestic Gas Consumer Card, the small passbook many families call the blue book.
- Your Subscription Voucher.
- Your gas company’s app, in your profile or connection details, once you log in with your registered mobile number.
- Your distributor. Call or visit with the connection holder’s name, address and registered mobile number.
How to Find Your 17-Digit LPG ID
1. On your gas company’s website
The LPG websites of all three companies have a “Find your 17 digit LPG ID” option. There are usually two ways to search:
- Quick search: needs fewer details, such as your registered mobile number, or your distributor’s name and your consumer number.
- Normal search: you pick your state, district and distributor from the lists, then enter your consumer number.
Fill in the captcha, submit, and your LPG ID appears on the screen. Take a screenshot before you close the page.
2. In your gas company’s app
Log in with your registered mobile number and open your profile or connection details. The LPG ID is usually shown there, along with your consumer number.

3. On your papers
Newer Subscription Vouchers, consumer cards and cash memos often carry the LPG ID. Older ones may show only the consumer number, especially if your connection is older than the LPG ID itself. So if you’re looking at a twenty-year-old SV and can’t find a 17-digit number, there’s nothing wrong. It was simply never printed there.
4. From your distributor or the helpline
If nothing else works, your distributor can look it up for you. You can also call the LPG helpline, 1800 2333 555.

- Your 16-digit consumer ID, starting with 7, is on your invoice, cash memo and SV.
HP Gas
- Use the LPG ID option on myhpgas.in, or check your profile in the HP Pay app.
- HP Gas also lists the LPG ID among the details available on its WhatsApp service, 92222 01122. Send “Hi” from your registered number and look for it in the menu.
Bharat Gas
- Use “Find your 17 digit LPG ID” on my.ebharatgas.com, or check your profile in the Hello BPCL app.
Lost Your SV? You Can Still Get the SV Number
Check DigiLocker first. The petroleum ministry says Subscription Vouchers and Termination Vouchers are available to consumers through DigiLocker. If yours isn’t there, your distributor’s records still hold your SV number, and you can apply for a duplicate SV with a declaration of loss.
Which Number Do You Need?
| What you’re doing | Keep this ready |
|---|---|
| Booking a refill by IVRS, WhatsApp or missed call | Your registered mobile number (Indane’s IVRS also asks you to confirm your 16-digit consumer ID) |
| Registering a new mobile number on Indane’s IVRS | Your 16-digit consumer ID |
| Checking subsidy (PAHAL) status | Your 17-digit LPG ID |
| Calling your distributor or making a complaint | Your consumer number and your distributor’s name |
| Transfer, surrender or name change | Your SV number and consumer number |
| eKYC | Your registered mobile number and the connection holder’s Aadhaar |
Common Mix-ups
Typing the consumer number where the LPG ID is asked
This is the classic one, and the result is always “no record found”. Count the digits before you blame the website.
Using a number from before you moved
If you moved to another city and reconnected there using a Termination Voucher, you got a new consumer number from the new distributor. The numbers on your old cash memos won’t work any more.
Mixing up piped gas and LPG numbers
If you’re switching to piped gas, remember that your PNG company has its own customer number, such as the BP number for IGL or the CA number for MGL. Those have nothing to do with your LPG connection.

A Word on Safety
Your consumer number and LPG ID aren’t passwords. They’re printed on papers that pass through many hands. That’s exactly why a caller who reads out your consumer number isn’t necessarily from your gas company. Whoever is calling, never share an OTP, and never pay anyone who says they’ll “update” your LPG ID for a fee.
