With LPG, everyone knows the price of a cylinder. With piped gas, most people have no idea what they’re paying until the bill arrives. That’s because PNG isn’t sold by the cylinder. It’s sold by the unit, measured in SCM, and the rate depends on which city you live in and which company supplies your area.
This page lists the current domestic PNG rate in major cities, explains what an SCM is, and shows you how to check the exact rate for your own connection.

What Is an SCM?
SCM stands for standard cubic metre. It’s the unit your PNG meter counts. Think of it the way you think of a unit of electricity: the meter records how many SCM you’ve used, and your bill is roughly that number multiplied by the rate for your city.
So unlike a cylinder, there’s no fixed price per refill. A small family that cooks twice a day pays less, and a large joint family pays more, simply because the meter runs longer.

Why the Rate Differs From City to City
Different companies
Each area has its own authorised gas company, and each company sets its own retail price. That’s why two cities served by different companies can have quite different rates.
Where the gas comes from
Companies use a mix of cheaper domestically produced gas and costlier imported LNG. The more expensive gas a company has to buy, the higher its retail rate tends to be. In 2026, the government even launched an incentive that gives gas companies extra domestic gas for new household connections, to replace costlier LNG.
State taxes
Natural gas is taxed by the states, and the rates aren’t the same everywhere. The government has encouraged states to bring VAT on natural gas down to 5 per cent, but where taxes are higher, the final rate is higher too.
How PNG Prices Moved in 2026
This year hasn’t been quiet for piped gas either:
- Delhi NCR: IGL started the year with a cut, bringing Delhi’s rate down to ₹47.89 per SCM. It then revised prices on 29 August 2026, taking Delhi to ₹49.59, Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad to ₹49.46, and Gurugram to ₹48.40.
- Mumbai: MGL raised its domestic PNG rate to ₹52 at the end of May, and by another ₹1 per SCM from 1 September, citing rising costs of imported gas.
- Jaipur: Torrent Gas raised its rate by about ₹2 in October 2026, from ₹51.50 to ₹53.50 per SCM, including taxes.
Even after these increases, the changes are small compared with the swings commercial LPG saw this year.
When Do PNG Prices Change?
There’s no fixed monthly date. Each company revises its rate when its gas costs change. MGL changed its rate twice in about three months this year, while IGL went seven months between revisions.
How to Check the Exact Rate for Your Connection
- Look at your last bill. The rate per SCM is printed on it.
- Check your company’s website. Most gas companies publish a rate card for domestic PNG.
- Call customer care if you’re not sure which rate applies to your area.
Not sure who your supplier is? PNGRB, the regulator, lists the authorised gas companies and their customer care numbers, area by area, on its website.

Quick Answers

₹49.59 per SCM, since IGL’s revision on 29 August 2026.
What is the PNG price in Mumbai?
₹53 per SCM, after MGL’s ₹1 increase from 1 September 2026.
Is the PNG rate the same across a whole state?
Not always. It depends on the company supplying your area, and one state can have several.
Is PNG cheaper than LPG?
It depends on how much you cook and on your city’s rate. We compare the two in detail in a separate guide.
Does the rate include taxes?
The rates companies publish for households usually include taxes. Check your company’s rate card to be sure.
Check the Rate, Then the Meter
The rate per SCM is only half of your bill. The other half is how much you use. Keep an eye on both: check the rate after every revision, and glance at your meter reading once in a while so the bill never comes as a surprise.
